Upcoming Events
:: Master Whisky Class with Macallan, October 27th 2009
:: Syrah, Shiraz
:: Kosher Wine Society Gift Certificates

It's amazing that October is here so fast. We just celebrated the New Year and I hope it was meaningful. I wish you and your family
a very happy Sukkot and hope that you enjoy wonderful meals in the Sukkah with friends and family.

On September 9th, we had a gala event in Soho celebrating "New Wines for the New Year." We introduced an international selection of
32 fabulous new wines that are perfect for adding warmth and sparkle to your Sukkah table, and to your Simchat Torah Celebrations.

On Tuesday, October 27th, at the Roger Smith Hotel in New York City, Graeme Russell, the Brand Ambassador for Scotland's Macallan
Distillery will teach a Master Whiskey Class featuring six extraordinary Macallan scotches. For the past 180 years, Macallans,
headquartered in the legendary Easter Elchies House in Craigellachie, has been producing matchless single-malt scotches and the
world's most precious whiskey.

We will soon be starting up our Fall Wine Education Series with Wine 101 and some other advanced wine classes. Stay tuned to the
website for more details.

Abarbanel Wine Company, located on Merrick Road in Lynbrook, is doing a great promotion on Israeli wine. You can save $5 per bottle
of wine up to $50. See below for coupon details.

Throughout the year, in addition to these public events, the Kosher Wine society hosts private events for synagogues, organizations
and charities. Please contact us immediately; our fall calendar is filling up fast. Please email us at Events@KosherWineSociety.com

Looking forward to seeing you at a future event.

May this year be the best year so far.

Syrah, Shiraz

Yes it is true - Syrah and Shiraz are the same grape. There are many other examples of the same grape having different names in
different locations, Durif and Petite Sirah, Malbec and Auxerrois, Nebbiolo and Chiavennasca, but no two names have achieved
recognition the world over
like Syrah and Shiraz.

Syrah/Shiraz is a very versatile varietal and can be used to produce wines of different styles. Shiraz has come to be associated
with the soft, jammy, spicy wines of Australia. Consumers expect Shiraz to have chocolate and dried fruit flavors in a medium-highly
tannic and full bodied wine. Syrah, on the other hand, is expected to show more restrained black fruit components with pepper,
spice, and brambly flavors on the palate.

The name on the label will give you an indication as to where and how the wine produced. Shiraz wines are produced in the regions
and style of the new world. Syrah wines originate from and are made in the old world style.

New York, New York - September 9th, 2009 - "Frisell's sound swells and breathes like a saxophonists," (allmusic.com) but it does
even more than that. It walks, it talks, and it aches for a family and a home. Frisell brings his well renowned niche of quality
sound and creative combinations to a daring project called Disfarmer. But what is Disfarmer? It's more a question of who than what
as Disfarmer is actually the name of Great Depression and pre WWII Arkansas photographer Mike Disfarmer. Born Michael Meyers, he
rejected his family, when he learned that "meyer" meant farmer in German, the choice of Disfarmer seemed best to suit his stance
against his upbringing.

When Frisell learned of the photographs, he created a multimedia tour to feature the creativity of the artist. Frisell uses his
Americana folk jazz and rock combinations to take on the unique challenges of creating "the sound of him looking through the lens,"
as Frisell describes it.

His latest album, Disfarmer, has been completely dedicated to amplifying the works of this photographer. He now brings old favorites
and his latest project to City Winery.

New York, New York - August 27th, 2009 - In his long-awaited return to the touring scene, Dick Dale has chosen City Winery to be
among the first performances of his East coast tour. The guitar legend rumored to have the fastest hands in music will be rocking
the winery with his 17- year-old son Jimmy. The performance has promise to be legendary, as it provides unique intimacy with the
rock legend and a very special set list with classics hand-picked from the Dick Dale catalogue and even a few musical surprises.

If you've seen Pulp Fiction or heard the Black Eyed Peas' infectious hit,"Pump It", you've enjoyed Dick Dale's classic, fun and fast
"Misirlou." Re-live the ramblings of Jules Winfield and Vincent Vega and enjoy a night of guitar rocking that will most likely melt
your face off. Tickets are extremely limited as this is his only performance in New York City.
